Ghost Rails Inn B&B - Alberton

The Ghost Rails Inn B&B looks like a set from a western movie and will be a truly special part of your trip. This historic railroad hotel has been brought into the 21st century with its 9 unique rooms, private baths and free wireless internet. The distinctive western decor and delicious full breakfast make for a memorable lodging experience. It's an easy day's drive from Seattle, Yellowstone and Billings; Glacier National Park is only a half-day away! You can book rooms directly on our website: www.ghostrailsinn.com.

Barely half a mile away, the Clark Fork River provides great fishing and the Alberton Gorge of the Clark Fork offers some of Montana's best whitewater for rafting and kayaking. We can help book your adventures with our area's best local guides and float trip operators, just let us know. Hunters love this part of Montana and we can help you with arranging that too.

Ghost Rails Inn B&B, built in 1909 as The Montana Hotel, was a crew change hotel for the Milwaukee Road Railroad. However, when the Milwaukee abandoned services and pulled up the tracks in the late 1970s the town nearly disappeared. Still small with a population of 434, Alberton today is coming back to life. Today, little Alberton boasts an intriguing bookstore with over 150,000 used books and a couple of the biggest house cats you've ever seen! Also on our short main street is the Antique Depot, housed in an actual train depot brought over from nearby Frenchtown. And even in our small town, you can get your latte fix at The Rail Road Expresso!

Across the street from the Inn is the lush, green town park, with tennis courts and picnic tables right next to the old Milwaukee Depot, now our town hall. It has a full kitchen and indoor seating for 50. This is a great place for parties and receptions. The new outdoor pavilion makes a fine bandstand or gazebo for weddings with the mountains as a backdrop.

Also nearby is the Nine Mile Ranger Station and Museum, where you can learn all about the early days of the Civilian Conservation Corp, rangering and mule packing in the back country.

Another wonderful day trip for the adventurous is the Route of the Hiawatha Trail, a 20-mile bike trail along the old railroad bed with 10 tunnels and spectacular views from the 7 sky high trestles!

The tracks are gone but the spirit lives on in Alberton, Montana. And a few spirits seem to linger in our hotel.... So relax and leave the world of cell phones and televisions behind. Spend a night in Ghost Rails Inn; spend a night in Yesterday.
