Summer Horseback Vacations:

I'd say this country pretty much looks the same as seen through the eyes of Lewis and Clark as they blazed their famous trail into Montana and made their way down the East Fork of the Bitterroot River. Step back in time with us and enjoy this land off of the beaten path just as they did. Camping, fishing, hiking, and photography are just a few of the activities your party can participate in. Our guides will see that you are right at home in this country as horses and mules transport you through time and country with the greatest of ease. Backcountry camping, lodge accommodations, cabin rentals, the options are endless. Fall Big Game Hunting:

Indian Summer Outfitters has an exclusive outfitters permit to roughly 70 square miles of rugged, beautiful Bitterroot National Forest. We offer pack in hunts on horses and mules from deluxe wall tent camps as well as lodge hunts from the Bitterroot Valley. Packing into the mountains is an experience in itself. It is approximately a three hour ride on the trail, depending on which camp has been selected for your hunt. Lodge hunters have access to the many drainages throughout the East Fork & West Forks of the Bitterroot Valley as well as to our permitted pack in area while enjoying all the amenities of home. The elevations hunted are from 5,000 to 8,000 feet and the terrain is varied from timbered ridges and canyons to open meadows and old clearcuts. There are also burned areas from the wildfires of 2000. As you would imagine, abundant feed has overtaken these areas increasing game populations as well as the quality of the animals. Immediately following the close of elk and deer season is the December 1st opening of mountain lion season. Southwestern Montana and the Bitterroot Mountains have a reputation for an excellent lion population and highly successful hunts.

All hunts include transportation to and from the airport in Missoula, Montana. All meals (except on drop camps) and accommodations, full time guide, all packing of downed game and transporting of your game, at your request, to our local processor for processing. Caping and game care is included as well and we have an excellent taxidermist in the area for those wishing to have their trophies mounted. We will also furnish your party with the necessary forms for license application and assist you in filling them out properly.

We conduct fair chase hunts on the animal's terms. We do our very best to provide our clients with an honest opportunity to harvest game. Weather and hunter ability are the two biggest factors in success. Good physical condition has its obvious advantages but the people, including old timers, who possess a good attitude and are persistent, usually prove to be the most successful.
