Wilma Theatre - Missoula

The Wilma Theatre is a Historical Landmark Theatre in downtown Missoula, Montana. It is significant not only for its architecture, but as a lasting monument to the spirit of people such as W.A. 'Billy' Simons and Edna Wilma who pioneered efforts to bring culture and live entertainment to a developing Montana.

The Wilma was built in 1921 by William Simons, who produced an early Wild West show. He named it after his wife, Edna Wilma Simons, a renowned light-opera star, who performed on the Pantages vaudeville circuit. After her husband died, she continued to operate the chain of theaters in the Northwest.

Today, the Wilma is a Missoula icon. With hundreds of flashing lights and 1920's-era box office, it is leading the turnaround, if not in dollars, in profile. The building has as a centerpiece a 1,067-seat theatre, which shows first-run films and presents live events. It also has a smaller theater with 125 seats, that shows movies.

The Wilma Theatre features a big curved silver screen, the largest indoor screen in Montana.
